Racing with CARE

Rob Howard / 14.03.2005
The team which organises challenge events as a fundraiser for the charity CARE International are putting on a short adventure race, open to all at Swinley Forest on April 2nd. It will be a good training and navigation exercise, and a low-key early season warm up for those who can get there, and you can enter on the day.

The race is for teams of 2 to 4 and will include a 2 hour run and a 2 hour mtb stage, with 6 checkpoints each. The checkpoints will have different values, and are not all compulsory, but those who get them all can collect a number at each to make up the grid reference of a bonus CP.

Registration opens from 9.00am, first starts are from 10.00 and the entry fee is £25 per person, with a map included and all the profit going to the work CARE support around the world. See www.care.org.uk to find out more about this.

The team staging the race run the Challenge Series each year and raise substantial funds for CARE by getting corporate teams to take part. The series includes traditional ‘3 Peaks’ walks, a one-day multi-sport challenge, a tough 24 peaks challenge in the Lake District, and this year some special ‘3 Peaks’ events in Spain, Ireland and Egypt. The organising team are one of the most experienced in corporate challenges, and have competed in some ACE and Dynamic Adventure races themselves.

The adventure race at Swinley will be good training for the company teams training for challenges in the summer, but is open to all and there is no requirement to fundraise … though it’s not discouraged!

If you want to know more see the event web page here, and if you think your company would benefit from a team challenge take a look at the rest of the Challenge Series while you are there.
