Travailen; The Full Drakensberg Traverse Movie Online For a Limited Time

The Drakensberg Grand Traverse, completed by Ryno Griesel and Ryan Sandes earlier this year, was filmed by The African Attachment in association with Red Bull Media House and the full feature is now available online, but only for a couple of weeks.

Ultra runner Sandes teamed up with adventure racer and existing DGT record holder Griesel to attempt a new record for crossing the Drakensberg range – a 204km route which they completed running for 41 hours 49 minutes non-stop. (The previous record was over 60 hours.)

The film was highly acclaimed on its release and sets out the severity of the challenge and the history of previous attempts, shows the preparations the pair made, and then follows their progress. 

Much of the film is narrated by the runners themselves and it’s a very honest and engaging account which is told in a down to earth and honest way, showing their vulnerabilities and worries, and their developing partnership and friendship.

With some impressive and filming and editing, and a subtle soundtrack it’s a great watch.
