Introducing The Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team

The Swedish Army is introducing an elite adventure racing team; Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team.
All team members are enlisted officers or soldiers. The team members originate from different top teams in Sweden and will consist of some of the most experienced and qualified adventure racers.
Together their total experience from Adventure Racing is more than 50 years. The team members are John Karlsson, Daniel Hansson, Johan Hasselmark, Emil Dahlqvist and Malin Hjalmarsson.
Their achievements include first place in the world cup of adventure racing, a number of gold medals in the Swedish Championships and Åre Extrem Challenge. Most recently, Johan Hasselmark won the extreme triathlon competition Celtman in England where he also set the new course record.
Daniel Hansson and John Karlsson won the competition Race of Champs in Falun. Malin Hjalmarsson recently had a great last race with her old team finishing in 7th place in the adventure race ITERA in Wales after 107 hours and 12 minutes.
And this weekend Emil Dahlqvist and John Karlsson won the Swedish Championship in the Adventure Racing short course distance.
Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Racing Team is the next step to further develop the commitment to elite athletes in endurance and extreme sports.
Major Jan-Henrik Bäck is the initiator for the team. “I am both pleased and proud that Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team will represent our forces. It will be very interesting and inspiring to follow the team's journey. I'm convinced the team and the members will be recognized as role models for all our soldiers.
During 2014 the main objective for the team is the Adventure Racing World Championship in November held in Ecuador.
The Swedish Armed Forces elite program is a part of Swedish Armed Forces Sport and Health unit (FMIF). The aim of the elite program is to inspire and encourage all employees to a higher level of physical activation and wellness.
