Rock and Road
Rock and Road Entries are Open
News Release / 04.12.2014

The Rock and Road is a great new concept in cycle racing. Complete part of the course on your road bike, then swap to your MTB to bring it home. Or team up with a friend who rides the opposite to you and race as a duo.
Road racing over a course of quiet country roads stretching to Sodwalls, Tarana and beyond; combined with great trails, built by the Central Tablelands MTB Club in Lidsdale State Forest, let's you play to your strengths and enjoy the best of both worlds.
The inaugural Rock&Road will be held on Sunday 17th May 2015, in and around the picturesque village of Rydal, approximately two-hours west of Sydney past the Blue Mountains.
The roads around Rydal, Tarana, Sodwalls and Gemalla are some of the best for rural road riding in the area. Featuring historic rail bridges, great surface, quaint villages, quiet rivers and rural vistas, the road loop we have come up with will make for some great racing. But for those wanting to take a bit more time the ride itself is beautiful.
For the Rock section, completed after the Road section, Lidsdale State Forest is where it's at. Central Tablelands MTB club have built some great single track, and combined with the fire trails in the forest and the adjacent Marrangaroo National Park, we have an awesome course laid out.
To anchor these two great courses the Rydal Showground, in the historic Rydal village, will have the music pumping (can't have an event called the Rock&Road without some 'wicked tunes'!) and the sausages sizzling. This will also be the site for the new and unique 'transition area'... think triathlon and you get the picture: lines of bikes, little piles of shoes for those not serious enough to put MTB pedals on their road bike (God forbid!?) and of course a special prize for the rider who has to change his or her knicks to baggies for the 'Rock' section ...you think we jest ... let's wait and see ;-)
Our interactive maps of the course can be found here.
So you want numbers? You want to know the suffer score?
There are two primary categories: The MAX R&R and the MINI R&R.
The MAX R&R has a Road course of approximately 80km distance and 1550m climb and a Rock course of approximately 40km distance and 750m climb. Each Solo rider must complete the Road course followed by the Rock course.
The MINI R&R has a Road course of approximately 40km distance and 850m climb and a Rock course of approximately 25km distance and 490m climb. Each Solo rider must complete the Road course followed by the Rock course.
If a solo gig is not quite your thing, team up with a friend (or significant other) and complete the course as a DUO with each rider completing either the Road or the Rock course and tagging in transition.
As always, you can enter in the Junior, Open, Veterans, Masters, Super Masters or Grand Masters categories.
