MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50 Route Announced

Press Release / 03.07.2015

The eco-friendly trail run crosses Singapore’s historical Green Corridor and parts of the pristine MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

Singapore, 2 July 2015 - The MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50 ultra marathon trail race - with chapters in Hong Kong and Taiwan - will take place in the garden city for the first time.  Covering some of Singapore’s most beautiful nature trails, organisers are taking a proactive approach to preserving the environment with a strict No Cup policy. Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC and fitness enthusiast, Mr Baey Yam Keng, will be flagging off the 10km race and participating in this leg of the trail run event.

Both the 10km and the 21km course will take place over the Green Corridor trail, while the 50km continues through MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

Experienced ultra-marathon runner, Lexxus Tan, will be competing alongside more than 1,000 race participants and other veteran runners including Deng Weifu (Taiwan), Mohd Puzi Dolah (Malaysia), Olya Korzh (Russia) and Vanja Cnops (Belgium). Lexxus is a well-known runner and trainer, respected for flying the Singapore flag at a number of high profile international races. When asked if he had any words of wisdom for participating runners, the veteran sportsman commented, “Lead by example and let your legs do all the talking!”

To minimise environmental damage to the historical route, the MSIG Singapore Action Asia 50 is operating a strict No Cup policy. Runners are advised to bring their own water bottles or hydration packs and refill them at the following water check points (CP) throughout the course, as cups will not be provided.

1) 10km     – 1 water checkpoint (CP1 at 5.5km turnaround).
2) 21km     – 3 water checkpoints (CP1 at 5.5km), (CP2 at 11km turnaround), (CP5 at 16.5km).
3) 50km     – 6 water checkpoints (CP1 at 5.5km), (CP2 at 11.2km), (CP3 at 19.4km), (CP4 at 28.4km), (CP5 at 37.2km), (CP6 at 47km).

Michael Gourlay, CEO of MSIG Insurance Singapore, commented: “The MSIG Action Asia 50 is one way we are reaching out to the passionate runners among our customer base to promote health and wellness in the community. We are adapting to our customers’ increasingly active lifestyles and our aim is to help them reach their goals in life, and feel protected. We are delighted that Mr Baey Yam Keng will be joining us on this trail race; he is a true supporter of healthy living. To all runners participating in the race, train hard and we wish you the best of luck!”

Michael Maddess, Director of Action Asia Events, will be leading a group training session for registered participants on the evening of 7 July to help those prepping for the race to log some extra kilometers. Maddess commented: “It is a challenging route so we advise that all participants ensure they have done the necessary training, especially if this is your first trail run or first 50km. Get outside and get some practice runs in! Our group training session will be a great chance to meet other runners taking part and pick up some tips on technique and how to tackle the course.”
