The X-Marathon adventure race, which was held in the Victorian High Country over the last four years, is moving to the Gippsland area and changing its format from 24 hour event to 36 hour fully supported expedition event.

The event is targeting experienced adventure racers from across Australia and New Zealand and is expected to be accessible for intermediate races and beginners who wish to get a taste of real adventure racing with all its highs and lows.

Organisers will provide kayaking equipment, all logistics support, electronic timing and live satellite trekking so competitors will have peace of mind they are well looked after.

All what is needed to do is to get 4 people together, take your bikes and some basic gear, arrange accommodation and come to discover the Gippsland region of Victoria.

Gippsland area provides enormous opportunities for breathtaking courses. Ninety mile beach, Gippsland lakes, The Lakes Park, Lake Tyres State Park, caves, rivers and single tracks; the list goes on and on. Lakes Entrance is an adventure racing paradise.

“It is a little bit sad to leave Eildon park, where we used to run this event,” said Maria Plyashechko, race coordinator. “However, it is time to move on and there is no better place than Gippsland - lots of water, variety of terrain, fantastic trails and plenty of local support.”

“A classic expedition format is something we were looking at for a few years,” said Serge Kurov, race director. “We organise races we would love to participate in ourselves, updating maps and searching for the best spots the area of the event has on offer. X-Marathon 2016 is going to be a ripper!”

The event will include teams of 4, which is a standard for expedition racing all around the world. The premier category is mixed, and there will be two other categories present, allowing for male and female teams.
