Mini Burn Attracts Enthusiastic Young Racers

News Release / 08.10.2015

The Mini Burn returned to Margam Park bigger and better than ever last Saturday. Even the Autumn weather was good to us! Nearly 50 teams crossed the line, with some travelling as far as Gloucester and even Dorset! The youngest contestants were just 7 years old, and there were a lot of them. It just goes to show that anyone can give the Mini Burn challenge a go.

When asked what he thought about the event, Bryan Marshall, 38 from Cowbridge, commented “Me and the boys had a great day! This is our second Mini Burn, we can’t wait for next year.”

This year we introduced slacklining to the orienteering phase to test the skill and balance of our Mini Burners, and just as we expected, they didn’t fail to impress! The climbing wall made an appearance once again, and although some of our younger contestants were a bit scared at the prospect of having to scale so high in the air, not one of them backed
down.

“It’s a fantastic way of introducing young children to outdoor pursuits,” Rich Wherlock, from Bristol, commented, with both him and 7 year old Freddie crossing the line in just over 2 hours.

We’re happy to report that once again there were no crashes on the kayaking! We’re always amazed at how quickly children pick up on these things, and watching some who had never done anything on the water have the time of their lives was so rewarding for us here at Burn Series.

A Mini Burn record was broken on Saturday with the fastest team of the day, team Besam, completing the course in just 1 hour and 10 minutes! The most popular category once again were the Family Pairs (1 under 10 years old and 1 adult).

“It was the best day ever!” Caian, 9, from Llanelli, told his dad Osian on the way home. They’re definitely coming back to the next event. Will you be joining us?
