Gaelforce Mountain Run Offers New Distance and €1000 in Prize Money

The Gaelforce Mountain Run takes place over unmarked routes in the northern Maamturk mountains in wildest Connemara. This is a unique opportunity to access this stunning route with special permission being granted for the event by local landowners. This challenging course features steep ascents and descents with 22km Expert and 12km Intermediate options suitable for experienced mountain runners only. Cash prizes of €1000 in total for the first male and female in the 22km Expert event are up for grabs.

New for 2016 is an Introductory 12km mountain run for those of reasonable fitness who want to get started at mountain running.  The Gaelforce Mountain Run is the only one of its kind on the west coast of Ireland and places are limited and so are expected to sell out fast.

12km Introductory Course

Total ascent: 1109 ft
Highest point: 991 ft
Type of terrain: Bog, long grass, hilly
Suitable for: All those of moderate fitness who want to try something different off road

22km Expert Course
Total ascent: 4500 ft
Number of peaks: 3
Highest peak: 1972 ft
Type of terrain: Challenging, bog, long grass, rocks with steep ascents and descents
Suitable for: Experienced mountain runners only

12km Intermediate Course
Total ascent: 2657 ft
Number of peaks: 1
Highest peak:1847 ft
Type of terrain: Challenging, bog, long grass, rocks with steep ascents and descents
Suitable for: Experienced mountain runners only
