Ford Ranger Adventure Series Underway
Rob / 13.05.2002
The newest one-day series in the Calendar, organised by ACE Races and aimed at beginners, got off to a great start in Thetford Forest last weekend (May 11th), despite some dismal weather.
About 70% of the competitors were new names to ACE Races, who’ve organised these 3 one-day races within 2 hours drive of London. The accessible venue, a maximum time of 5 hours, no canoeing or complex navigation to worry about, and the emphasis on fun challenges, proved a winning formula from the start with over 200 competitors turning up. (Only one registered team didn’t start.)
Between the trail running and the riding there were an imaginative selection of challenges to have a go at, involving nuts and bolts, jigsaw puzzles, a river, inner tubes and bits of string, but not necessarily all at once! (To find out more read our full race report which will be up soon along with lots of pictures.)
Team The North Face romped home to win, in what for them was a sprint training exercise, but the day was more about getting more people involved in adventure racing. Judging by the smiling faces it was huge success. Following on from last weekend’s Trailplus race at Sandhurst (again see our race reports section) the last week has been a significant one for AR in the UK as the ‘starter’ races have had an enthusiastic uptake and a really positive response.
You can find dates and details of the remaining Ford Ranger Adventure Series Races in our Calendar.
