MOUNTAIN DESIGNS GeoQuest 48hr AR - 10-13 June 2005

Criag Bycroft / 10.05.2005
Mountain Designs GeoQuest 2005 is heading to the Port Macquarie area, 3-4 hours north of Sydney. Teams will race for up to 48 hours over an arduous course that will involve sea kayaking, roping, trekking and mountain biking. A new discipline, pack rafting, is also on the agenda for this year’s event.
The event which is also supported by Land Rover and Hammer Gel, is heralded by competitors as the “Grand Final” of the year in Australian Adventure Racing. In addition to attracting all the big name Australian teams, the event caters to first time adventure racers who can enter the race in the Geo-Half category. The 2005 field is set to be the biggest yet with over 60 teams expected to be competing.
Some of the top teams lining up at this years event include the winner of the previous two events, AROC / Mountain Designs. The loss of team mate Nigel Aylott has been very hard for the team, however the recent addition of multi-sport legend Kris Clausen, will make this team hard to beat.
After a string of seconds (2nd in 2002, 2nd in 2004), the fiery team Mille led by Matt Blundell are focusing on minimizing their mistakes with the hope of victory. The team is just as fast as AROC/Mountain Designs and if it came down to a sprint finish, Millie could make it home first.
