Beast of the East - Odyssey Adds $10,000 Prize Purse

19.05.2005
Odyssey Adventure Racing have announced a $10,000 cash prize purse to this year’s Beast of the East, the largest cash prize in Odyssey’s history.

The Beast will take place October 22-28, in the beautiful Claytor Lake area of Virginia, a location chosen for its diverse terrain. It promises a challenging course as well as for stunning scenery and views.

New owners, Ronny Angell and Hollie Flynn made the decision to increase the cash prize shortly after taking ownership of Odyssey earlier this year. “Odyssey has the most impressive track record in terms of successful races (over 110) and safety. Now it’s time to start adding some impressive cash prizes. This is just a start to what we plan to do in the future,” said owner Ronny Angell.

This year’s Beast of the East, a 5-6 day Adventure Race is the longest expedition race on U.S. soil in 2005. The race will encompass over 400 miles and include trekking, mountain biking, ascending, rappelling, whitewater and flatwater canoeing, and orienteering. The race is also a USARA Championship and World Championship Qualifier race.

Odyssey is expecting large numbers for this race and hope to see Pro teams as well as those new to expedition length adventure racing. For event information and registration visit www.OARevents.com.
