Last Chance for Fulda Challenge 2006
Rob / 01.06.2005
“Have you ever considered tackling a 48km mountain bike ride and a half-marathon in Arctic temperatures? Could you climb a 30m-high ice wall, endure 30kms of cross-country skiing, and navigate a team of huskies through alpine woodland in temperatures as low as -45ºC?†That’s the challenge thrown out by the Fulda Challenge who are looking for men and women to represent the UK in the 2006 event in the Yukon Territory of Arctic Canada. The organisers have already received application forms from hundreds of entrants, including winter sports enthusiasts or many adventure racers, but there is still time to get a last minute application in.
The deadline for applications is 6th June and fit and adventurous athletes are still being encouraged to apply. Marcus White, Brand Manager for Fulda UK said: “The standard of applicants this year has definitely improved. We already have a great mix of people to choose from. However, there are still a few days for people who would like to be considered and submit an application and stand a chance of representing the UK.â€
Short-listed applicants (ten men and ten women) will be invited to compete in the UK selection event over the weekend of 18-19th June. Fully trained PT Instructors will put the hopefuls through their paces at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines at Lympstone in Devon. With full use of the centre’s excellent training facilities, rock climbing, mountain biking, cross-country running and rope crossing are just some of the events that will feature on the demanding two-day itinerary.
Up to five men and five women will then be selected to compete in the European elimination event, which takes place in Sulden, Italy between 29th September and 2nd October. It’s here the final UK team will be chosen to compete in the Fulda Tyres Challenge, which will take place in late January/early February 2006.
