The Flight Centre Peppers Hidden Vale Cycle Epic is an off road cycling race to be held on Sunday 4 September 2005 starting at Toowoomba and following a 100 kilometre route along the Bicentennial National Trail to Old Hidden Vale outside Grandchester.

Cycle Epic co-managers Peter Creagh and Tod Horton said the big prize pool is a deliberate strategy to entice the elite riders to participate in the gruelling 100km event.

“A significant enhancement to the 2005 Epic is the introduction of the Pro Teams Trophy,” Peter said.

“Basically we’re giving $2,000 to a team of riders who complete the 100km with the fastest combined time,” Peter said.

“Teams need to be a minimum of three riders, and maximum of four, with the fastest three times taking out the Trophy.

“This concept has been used successfully in other sports and while it is not new, it is new to mountain bike competitions.

“The Pro Team Trophy will really engage the concept of team riding while still keeping the focus on individual performances.”

Peter said to in addition to lucrative cash purses up for grabs, Elite riders can win additional $400 cash for the first rider across the line at each stage checkpoint.

“Elite riders need to complete the full 100km to be eligible for the $400 cash stage win,” said Peter.

Tod Horton said that all riders who participate in this year’s Epic will be eligible to a range of cash and product prizes.
