24 Hours To Adventure
Rob / 30.06.2005
There’s just a month to go before the inaugural Open24. Open Adventure has already set a precedent this year with two 5 hour adventure races in spectacular locations and James Thurlow, the Event Director, is confident that the Open24 is going to be even better. As well as the core stages of navigation by mountain bike and by foot – canoeing and swimming have also found there way on to the agenda for the 24 hour event. There will be some spectacular ropes sections to enjoy, and as it’s a pairs race it should be much easier to get a ‘team’ together.
Keen not to give away too many surprises James has let on that water has a reoccurring theme throughout the event. “Never wanting a competitor to do what I wouldn’t, I have had a great month exploring some amazing corners of the competition area with the event safety team – and competitors should be ready for a breath taking experience!â€
He added, “The race will be a very tactical, for those who are at the top of their game; their navigation will have to be spot on. Yet the course has also been designed as a journey that mortals can enjoy, with an opportunity to overnight camp and still enjoy the special stages by covering only 64km.†(The full distance will be 232km.)
The race will also be ideal training for those planning on doing the Wilderness ARC (Though it’s a pairs race, two teams can race together if they want.)
The closing date for entries is Friday July 15th 2005 and there is a strict entry limit due to the number of canoes available, so don’t leave it late and be disappointed. Entry costs £180 for a pair and this includes open canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids (which are also available for use in the 800m swim section if required), plus the transport of kit boxes and cycles to the relevant transition points.
