Wilderness Arc Bids To Host World Champs 2007
Media Release / 06.07.2005
The Wilderness ARC, Great Britain’s inaugural World Series Event, has announced its bid to host the 2007 Adventure Race World Championship in the Highlands of Scotland. It is some bid. With the combined support of the Scottish Executive; the national Event funding body, EventScotland; the national tourism body, VisitScotland; the Highland Council and the Highland 2007 Commission, the Wilderness ARC has achieved the strongest possible foundations even before the first racer has taken to the hills!
The event, a collaboration between ACE Races and Detail Events, involves 3 of the UK’s best known race organisers coming together to stage a tour de force of UK AR. With Scotland as the playground and with Gary Tompsett as the man behind the route book, it promises to showcase the very best of this rugged landscape in a moving, entertaining and awe-inspiring course.
EventScotland and its partners have coordinated £200,000 ($350 000) of public investment over three years to support Scotland’s bid in partnership with ACE Races, Detail Events, VisitScotland, Highland Council and Highland 2007.
Phil Humphries, of ACE Races, commented:
“The support we have had from our public partners has been overwhelming. Myself, Jim Mee and Gary Tompsett are all proud to be staging the first UK World Series Event this year and looking forward to demonstrating our credentials to host a World Championship event in 2007. With this public sector support, it can only be good news for the sport and the people taking part within it.â€
As a pledge directly aimed at competitors and a gesture of goodwill to the long-term health of the sport, the organisers have confirmed that a percentage of sponsorship investment will be rolled into the prize purse in future years.
The 2005 event already has nearly 30 teams signed up, from a number of different countries. The course is looking great and registered competitors have been treated to a special preview photo gallery of some of the spots that may (or may not) be featured throughout the course.
All in all, it looks like the ARC is set to land in dramatic style!
