Saab Salomon’s Sizzling Summer

Rob / 12.07.2005
In the coming weeks the Saab Salomon squad will be competing in Andorra, the Arctic and Edinburgh as part of their busiest summer racing programme so far. And that’s just the Adventure Racing team, this year there is also a Saab Salomon Adventure Running team ... and they are producing the same high standards.

Last weekend both squads came together at the Wasdale Fell Run, one of the toughest fell races in the calendar, covering 21 miles with 9,000 feet of ascent, and between then the runners and adventure racers took 6 of the top 7 places.

In blistering heat Simon Booth came in first followed by running team mate Nick Sharp. Phil Davies and Ben Bardsley of the Adventure Racing team were not far behind in fourth and sixth places and to complete a great day for Saab Salomon, Rob Jebb of the Running Team was in fifth place and Adventure Race team member Jim Davies in 7th.

The running team are racing internationally in the SkyRunner series, and setting the competition back on their heels with some stunning performances. Robb Jebb won the first round at the Zegama-Aizkorri Alpine Marathon in Spain, breaking the record by an amazing 12 minutes, with Booth second and Sharp 7th, and still inside the old record. All the runners will aim to compete in 4 qualifying races for the series title, including one in the Dolomites this coming weekend.

The AR team is equally busy as they build up to The Raid World Championships in the Alps and the Adventure Racing World Championships in New Zealand in November. This coming weekend some of the squad (Ben Bardsley, Nicky and Andrew Davies and Andrew Schofield) will be heading for Greenland for the Arctic Team Challenge. They are hoping to improve on last year’s second place and have an eye on the big prize money for the winners (to pay for those tickets to New Zealand!)
