Dream Raid Entries Open
Rob Howard / 28.07.2005
Registration for the second Dream Raid, to be held on the Pacific island of New Caledonia from 28th October to 4th November 2005, have now opened.Already a few teams are registered, and the first to enter was the Australian team ‘Aussie Bodies’. Only 25 teams will be able to enter the event in this fantastic location, and registration will end on 1st September.
The tough but beautiful course has been designed by two race directors, Eric Becker and Jeannot Clair. Navigation is said to be ‘interesting’ and the planners hope it will keep teams tested right to the end of the race. Night navigation could be especially testing. On the coastline or up in the mountains, through the rainforest and the niaoulis savana, teams will race through a beautiful country with a striking contrast of colours.
The stages on the water will use Prijon Excursion kayaks and will be quite long (up to 70 km), with paddling on turquoise lagoons or wild rivers. Teams will be able to take personal paddles and use kites or sails only if the two kayaks are joined.
Teams must have at least one 4WD car and their support crew will be in charge of the kayak transportation throughout the race. The provisional regulations are similar to the first race, which was held in 2002 and are now listed on the website.
The brand new RAMADA Plaza hotel, located at Anse Vata, will host the Headquarters of the Dream Raid and any teams entering are reminded to book plane tickets quickly as the race is held in the tourist high season.
