Discovery World Champs on T.V. This Week
Rob / 22.06.2002
The long awaited film on last year’s AR World Championship in Switzerland will air on Discovery Channel in the UK this week.
It’s a 4 hour mini series (first shown in USA back in March) and there will be several opportunities to see each episode, which is fortunate as we’ve been given virtually no advance notice of the showing times.
The race was the first World Championship, with qualifiers from other races around the world, including our own Adrenalin Rush and took place in Switzerland last September. It was an exceptionally tough course, running for 400km and 4 days over Alpine terrain and few teams managed to finish it. The winners were Nokia Adventure and Parrot/Lythgoe were the only UK team to make the finish line, but from a UK perspective the canyoneering accident involving Carolyn Jones overshadowed everything else.
Discovery Channel were the race and series sponsors and made an impressive effort with their filming, with a huge number of cameras, specialist sports cameramen, helicopters, and even shoulder-cams carried by teams during the race. It will be interesting to see the final result.
The showing times are expected to be as follows, but check before you set the video:
