XTERRA World Championship will return to Trentino in 2024
Press Release / 20.07.2023
The 2024 XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon will return to Trentino, Italy for its third and final year on September 21, 2024 at Lake Molveno.
“The support we’ve received from our local partners from Trentino and Dolomiti Paganella has been overwhelming, and for those who haven’t been yet, we want to give the XTERRA Family one last chance to qualify and experience the magic of the Dolomites,” said J-D Cousens, XTERRA VP of Operations & Global Marketing.
2022 was the first year XTERRA Worlds had been held outside the Hawaiian island of Maui, and the inaugural event in Trentino was lauded by competitors as one of the most epic of all-time.
“We as Dolomiti Paganella are very proud to organize the 2024 XTERRA World Championship in Molveno for the third time in a row, after the great success of the first WC ever to be held in a different location than Maui in 2022,” said Michele Viola, President of Tourist Board Dolomiti Paganella.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming XTERRA athletes, their families, and fans to the shores of Lake Molveno at the foot of the picturesque peaks of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site, for the next two years.”
This year’s XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon weekend of events is set for Sept. 21-24, 2023, and will include Short Track relay team racing for age group athletes on Sunday for the first-time.
"Thanks to the teamwork with APT Dolomiti Paganella and the XTERRA Organizing Committee, Trentino has proved to be a challenging and stunning race venue for athletes and we are excitedly awaiting this year’s event and also look forward to 2024 when we will have the honor of hosting the XTERRA World Championship once again,” said Maurizio Rossini, CEO of Trentino Marketing.
Athletes who qualify for Worlds at XTERRA events held in August 2023 have the option to race in the 2023 or 2024 World Championship, and those who qualify at races held in September 2023 through July 2024 will be eligible for the 2024 XTERRA World Championship.
“It was important for us to announce Trentino as the host destination for 2024 now so athletes can plan accordingly,” said Cousens. “We are committed to rotating our championship venues every two to three years, and will strive to announce a new destination for the 2025 XTERRA World Championship by July 2024 or sooner.”
While the World Championship will rotate venues in 2025, XTERRA plans to make Trentino a permanent fixture on the World Tour due to the incredible local and regional support, amazing facilities, and high-demand from athletes from around the world,
The competition for qualifying spots into the XTERRA World Championship has never been greater as the event will once again reach capacity with 800 competitors from 50 countries.
Athletes looking to secure their spot early for the 2024 race have a wide-variety of dream-worthy destinations to choose from with dozens of upcoming races in the Americas (U.S., Canada, Brazil), EMEA (France, Czech, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Morocco, Oman) and Asia Pacific regions (Japan, Taiwan, Tahiti) between August 2023 and March 2024.
