DAR - A Busy End to the Year
Rob Howard / 02.09.2005
It’s been a while since the last Dynamic Adventure race, but after their summer break the DAR team are now getting ready for their last two races of the year, and their weekend, residential training course.Nicky Thomas has been out and about in Wiltshire, planning the next race which takes place over the weekend of September 24/25th starting from Andover. “The course will take you to some great viewpoints and through some beautiful rolling countrysideâ€, she said. “In it’s current condition, the going is good and it promises to be a fast course.â€
The weekend kicks off as usual with the ‘Plus’ race on the Saturday, an 8-hour continuous race in which the competitors choose how much time to spend on each of the mountain biking and running sections, and decide which to tackle first. Then the Standard race will be on the Sunday, with a 2-hour run through the countryside followed by a 3-hour mountain bike. (This is a ‘summer’ race so this one won’t include a night navigation section.)
Next on the DAR calendar is their training course in the North Downs area on 22nd/23rd October. If you (or any friends) would like to boost your confidence before tackling your first race this is a great introduction to the skills required in navigation, nutrition, mountain biking, night navigation and kayaking. More experienced racers can benefit from expert advice away from the pressures of competition as well, and the weekend finishes with a trial adventure race on the Sunday to put all the new skills learned into practice. The base for the weekend is Felbury House near Guildford and the cost is £185 with full board and all instruction.
The final race weekend in 2005 will also be on The North Downs over the weekend of December 3rd/4th and so far this year DAR events have sold out, so an early entry is advised.
