Officially news on the venue of the 2006 Raid World Championships was to be announced at the end of the 2005 race in a weeks time ... but Alain Gaimard, President of race organisers Saga d’Aventures decided not to wait.

After introducing the 2005 race to the press, he added, “And I can tell you the next Raid World Championships will be in ... Canada!” Then he smiled and added, “And that’s a scoop!”

The news will be a boost to adventure racing in North America, and especially in Canada. There are no Canadian teams in this year’s Raid final. Several did enter the qualifiers but they failed to qualify against the stronger U.S. teams

Gaimard said no more so we’ll have to wait for a while for confirmation of the venue at the race presentation next Friday.
