Anaconda Adventure Race

Rapid Ascent / SleepMonsters Australia / 06.10.2005
Legendary wheelchair athlete John Maclean will be competing at this year’s race and his team will certainly be one to look out for on race day. John is the first wheelchair athlete to complete the Hawaii Ironman, and was inducted into the Hawaii Ironman Hall of Fame in 2002. In 1998 John became the first (and still only) wheelchair athlete to swim the English Channel. He followed these incredible feats by competing for Australia at both the Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games, sailed aboard Team Aspect which finished twelfth overall in the 2001 Sydney to Hobart and in 2002, handcycled from Brisbane to Melbourne to launch the John Maclean Foundation on a national basis. As recently as May this year, John became the first wheelchair athlete to complete the Molokai Challenge in Hawaii.

John will be joined in the team by dual Olympic Silver Medalist Nathan Baggaley and champion mountain biker Alistair Farley, who will make up three of the four members of the John Maclean Foundation team. The team’s runner will be announced shortly. John is excited to be participating in his first adventure race and is delighted with the make-up of the team.
