Team Silly Rabbits Win the Xstream Expedition Race

TEAM SILLY RABBITS WINS XSTREAM EXPEDITION RACETogether the team traveled more than 250 miles and trekked to peaks of over 12,000 feet during a storm - successfully navigating sections of mountain biking, trekking, flat and white-water paddling, and a ropes course that included a via ferrata and rappel of almost 200 feet. Shouts rang out across the finish line and champagne bottles were sprayed about.
'Team Silly Rabbits have again proven that they are one of the world's best adventure racing teams with this win here in Moab', stated Will Newcomer, Race Director. 'They pressed on and persevered despite storms, snow squalls, mechanical difficulties and more. From the starting block they were a force to be reckoned with and kept up a very fast race pace.'
'The course, the staff, and the racing were all top-notch -- definitely the highlight (by far!) of my race experiences,' said Jennifer Ratay of Team Silly Rabbits.
Team Balance Bar came in 2nd place. 'We had a blast. The course was great and hard,' Marcello Duarte of Team Balance Bar said. 'I think (race director) Will (Newcomer) did a superb job in putting it together.'
Third place in the 4-person Co-ed Category went to Team MOAT. Fourth place went to Team Nike ACG NW and 5th place to Team Shooting Star Adventures. First place 2 person co-ed team was Team Santa Fe Bear Pair.
Many of the top teams remained gathered around the finish line on Monday to cheer on the next teams to come through - sharing the agony of the preceding days while recalling the funny moments, beautiful scenery and sleep deprived hallucinations.
Winners of the 2005 Xstream Expedition Race took home a $10,000 cash purse. Sponsors of the 2005 AdventureXstream Race Series include SmartWool, Zorrel.com, Adventure Sports Magazine, Hammer Nutrition, DEAN Bicycles, Moab Area Travel Council, AIRE, Checkpointzero.com and Clif Bar.
