Who will win the Ford 4x4 this weekend?
Rob / 15.08.2002
The final race in the Ford Ranger Adventure Series is this weekend and one lucky team is going to win the use of new Ford Ranger 4x4 for next year.
Surprisingly there are only 5 teams in with a chance of winning and the clear favourites to arrive in grand style at all next year’s races are Wadenhoe/High Five. The series has been a great success with 70 different teams have competing in the first 2 races and 88 entered for the final event at Bracknell Forest, but of these only 5 have kept the same team members throughout, which they must to stand a chance of winning the big prize.
Although Team The North Face have won both races so far they’ve not kept the same line up, whereas Wadenhoe High Five, who’ve been second on both occasions, have. So with an aggregate time of 06.47.35 from 2 races it Keith Read, Mark Bennett and Gill Watson who are in ‘pole position’ for the start of the final race. Their nearest challengers are team ’99 Whipped into a Frenzy’ with an aggregate of 07.22.11 – and 35 minutes is a big deficit to make up in a 5 hour race.
No doubt Wadenhoe High Five will play it safe but anything can happen in a race and there are no certainties they’ll pick up the keys for next years team vehicle. The other 3 teams still eligible to win the Ranger (though a long way behind) are ‘Southern Spiders – Huntsman’ (07:48:53), ‘180 Warriors’ (09:14:50) and ‘Lilac Hats’ (09:43:01). All will be decided come Saturday.
