Triple X Replaced by ‘The Full Monty’!
Rob Howard / 08.12.2005
ACE Races have announced more details of their program for the year ahead and the first ACE event of the year will be ‘The Full Monty’, which replaces the Triple XXX on the weekend of February 4/5th.Explaining the change Race Director Phil Humphreys said, “As many of you will already know, Mel & I have had a very difficult 6 months during which Mel (my wife) has had 5 operations, the last one only 2 weeks ago, to treat her cancer. As a result, this has left very little time in which to undertake the extensive and necessary ground-work in preparation for the Triple X. It is because of this that I have chosen to replace the Triple X with an exciting, new event: ‘The Full Monty’. I hope you will understand and support the rationale behind this change.â€
Like the Triple X, ‘The Full Monty’ will be a 30 hour endurance challenge, and perhaps physically even tougher, but it will be more flexible and affordable, and ideal training for teams attempting the Wilderness ARC. (The name comes from the fact the route is a loop, starting and finishing at Montford Bridge on the Severn.)
Teams and pairs will attempt a 100 mile journey, kayaking, mountain biking and trekking, climbing nearly 3000m en route. Some may travel even further and climb higher, others may choose to do less. Humphreys added, “Although there will be cut-off times to meet, we expect fit teams to complete the course comfortably … and even get some sleep. There are also stage extensions reserved for the speediest teams.â€
