Sunshine Racing

Some of the UK’s top racers have been in action over the past week – and not surprisingly they’ve been to warmer climes to escape the British winter ...

Ski Sharp was racing in the new Oman Adventure, ‘Bike and Run’ event run by Gerard Fusil. Sharp currently lives and works in Oman and was competing with local triathlete ‘Suliman’ as Team Oman Muscat. The 5 day stage race through desert and canyons, proved to be an exceptionally tough one and his team lost a lot of time with navigational errors on day 1, which they couldn’t make up against eventual winners Wilsa Sport Helly Hansen. They eventually finished in 3rd place, behind the Australian combo ‘Stevos Mates’.

At the same in Baja Mexico, Nike ACG Endure were coming to the end of another new race, the Baja Extreme. The team included Anna McCormack, Norman Dunroy and they too were in desert conditions, with extreme heat and cold to contend with. The race included a 3000m bike climb and a mini orienteering/auto rally and coming into the final stages Nike ACG Endure were leading … but then they hit the Devils Canyon, took a wrong descent route and spent hours ‘cliffed out’, eventually finishing 5th.

There are more detailed reports on both events in our Race Reports section.

The most successful of the UK’s sun seeking racers were Tom Gibbs and Martin Warren, who defended their corporate team title at the World Team Challenge in Florida. For more details see our international news item.
