Roughnecks are Lottery Winners
Rob / 03.09.2002
The Stobhill Roughnecks have had a lottery grant to help fund next year’s racing programme. The team, lead by Rob Sanderson, are part of the Stobhill Hill Walking and Rambling Club, and use races to raise cash for the Stobhill Hospital. Rob was a marshal at the Red Bull Northern Exposure this year, and the club has been going over 5 years now, during which time the AR team have completed several Salomon X-adventures.
With cost always an issue and a good cause behind their activities they decided to have a go for lottery funding through the ‘Award for All’ scheme and hit the jackpot! They wanted to broaden their horizons a bit and go for some longer races like Adrenalin Rush and Northern Exposure and the grant of over £3000 now means they can plan for these for next year. In fact they are hoping to do ACE Races, the Salomon X-adventures and the British Championships as well. The club are based in Glasgow and are looking for “good, fit Scottish racers†to join them and build up the team squad. They club now has a website here.
As far as we know the team are the first adventure racers to get this sort of financial support – let’s hope others do too. Details of the Awards for All scheme are here.
