ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin
ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin Coming Up This Weekend
Press Release / 06.07.2022
After a fantastic race weekend at ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Isles of Scilly on June 4 & 5, it is now time for the beautiful ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin in Switzerland.
The Engadin Valley, which is known for the town of St Moritz is where ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series launched the beginning of the international Swimrun movement in 2014. This stage for the next World Series weekend is so very different from the previous race location. Instead of islands we have lakes and instead of ocean we have mountains. This location is magnificent with the incredible mountain surroundings.
This ninth edition will be different from previous editions as all races will be in one day. The two Shorter distance races (Experience & Sprint) will start a couple of hours after the World Series which will be using a new course. The excitement and energy at the start and finish becomes so much more with all racers in the same place.
With a start and finish in Silvaplana the World Series will be on a new course, but will most likely still be viewed as one of the more difficult ones as it has lots of vertical and is a long day at altitude. A total distance of 43km of which close to 6 km are swimming in 9 different sections. The racers will do almost 1300 metres of positive elevation gain during the race. It is also seen as one of the more beautiful events.
There will be some very strong racers on the start line, World Champion Desirée Andersson (SWE) will be racing with Swede Amanda Nilsson in the Women's category. They will fly and are aiming for the overall podium.
In the Mixed category the runner-ups at the 2021 World Championship Sabina Rapelli (CH) & Alexis Charrier (FRA) will also be extremely fast.
In the Men's category the team that is winning everything they start in at the moment Max Andersson (SWE) & Hugo Tormento (FRA) will most likely be in the very front as well. This year they have won the World Series events of Utö and Isles of Scilly. The question is; will they have a clean streak throughout the year?
Races are still seeing less teams than pre-pandemic, but what is very nice to see is the amount of nationalities represented and also the growth of the amount of Swiss teams.
Over the years Swimrun has evolved from an extreme form of endurance racing to now have distances that suit everybody.
On the Saturday two shorter races (Experience 7,1 km & Sprint 15,2 km) will start a couple of hours after the World Series. These races make the sport possible for anyone who likes to swim and to run, making it a fantastic way to explore the valley. The split between the World Series and the two shorter races is almost 50/50.
All races are open for teams of two or for solo racers.
