Heart Ache As Britain’s Most Brutal Race Concludes

In a tense and emotional end to the race, the final runner Roberto Semprini crosses the finish line 44 minutes before the cut off. There was heart ache for Silvia Delgado Ortiz and Raf Willems who having courageously battled together for the near entirety of the Pennine Way but retired 7 miles from the finish line.
For the rest of the field, enduring 268 miles through the most gruelling of winter conditions, the runners begin to comprehend what they’ve just achieved. Having given everything of themselves most found deeper strengths that they never knew they had.
Damian Hall, this year’s winner reflects, “The Spine Race is always one hell of a ride. The historic trail, the drama of winter, the incredible community around the race and the excitement of racing others. Huge thanks to everyone involved. I’ll be back for a fifth time, deffo.” Damian Hall.
This year was the most watched Spine Race ever as the avid ‘dot watcher’ family grows. This race is different. It gets under your skin. To obsess over a ‘virtual dot’ at 2am in the morning is not normal. The Spine family epitomises a spirit so pure it touches the very soul of who we are. We thank all of our volunteers and everyone who has supported the race.
Jasmin Paris’s course record still stands. The question is, who will be back next year to take it on? Can Damian go one better? Will John Kelly set the record straight? The countdown is on. Tune in on January 13th 2024.
