No Frills. No Fuss AR - 2023 edition.
Montagu Adventure Race in the Land of Milk and Honey
Press Release / 13.06.2023
Hosted in the historic “Land of Milk and Honey, Montagu will be the theatre for a grand adventure over the long weekend of 15-18 June. Adventure racing teams will have a weekend of exploration and fun in the Western Cape.
The race is presented by No Frills. No Fuss. – an adventurous Montagu local couple that have an immense passion for producing a challenging adventure for all. From the best teams in the country (and even the world) to the complete newbies in the sport, we have designed three courses for every adventurer at heart.
Even though this will be the 5th edition of NFNF races, this year is a little different. This is the first year NFNF are part of the ARWS (Adventure Racing World Series) Africa Series.
The ARWS Africa Series is a collection of five of the best mid-distance adventure races in the Africa region. Different Event organisers set unique courses to test athletes and the disciplines include trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, and navigation.
Participating teams earn points towards their AR Regional Ranking and the winner of each round gains entry to the ARWS Africa Championship. The series winner of the Regional Championship gains an entry to the global Adventure Racing World Championship.
The Le Brun family farm will be the host venue, which will play home to racers, friends, families and those spectators keen to spend time beside a campfire and sharing adventure stories.
For the long weekend, there are two accommodation options available at the race village. Camping and glamping are available on the farm, as well as general accommodation in the stunning surrounding areas.
“Iconic to NFNF races are the route choices, tricky terrain that leaves every participant challenged, yet inspired for more. We promise to show you a different side of the town of milk and honey with beautiful towering peaks, perennial rivers and gravel roads.” said Race Director, Robert Le Brun.
The race has three different “distances” – a 45-60hr (300km) race for the more experienced teams looking for good quality expedition racing experience, a 12hr (100km) race for those looking to step it up or newbies to the sport looking for a good challenge and, finally a 6hr (45km) race for families, kids and budding new adventure racers. The races can be entered in pairs or as a team of 4.
Those who follow the live tracking of the ARWS race will be in for a treat as all of South Africa’s top teams and racers are taking part. The race is ideal team tuning ahead of the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Eastern Cape in October.
The start line up includes ARWS Africa Champions Team Merrell Songlines, Team Merrell lead by Graham Bird and Team Cyanosis, the 3 most successful teams in South African racing, and they will be challenged by Pinegold, Rustproof, Terra Mater and others. It’s going to be battle royale!
