The Coast of the Dendê, in Brazil, will be the setting for Ecomotion/Pro between October 15 and 23. The race is Brazil’s premier competition and this year is part of the AR World Series for the first time, so teams will be racing for a chance to compete in next year’s Southern Traverse.

The race has 50 teams competing, mostly from Brazil, but there is also a strong international entry. Competitors are traveling from Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, Canada, Mexico, United States, France, New Zealand and Finland to take part. They will face some challenging and varied terrain, in one of the most beautiful paradises of the Brazilian coast.

Among the favourites are last year’s winners MeridianoRaid.com, the Spanish team lead by Antonio De La Rosa, who will be defending their title. They will expect to be challenged by the U.S. team Epinephrine, and the Brazilian teams will have the advantage of familiarity with the maps, terrain and climate. Mitsubishi Salomon QuasarLontra will expect to be competing with the top teams, and keen to qualify for the World Championships for Brazil. Sportzhub.com may have a say in the final outcome and the joint UK/Finnish team, eVENT ENDURE are very experienced. The same team have raced in the Raid Gauloises, and have many race wins between them.

The first five teams will share a cash prize of US$ 50.000,00. To win it they will have to cover 480 kilometers in seven days and six nights, including 8 disciplines: navigation, trekking, mountain biking, paddling, rafting, rope skills, coasteering, and swimming. They will face physical fatigue, an emotional roller coaster, hunger, blisters, sores and pains, insects, perhaps even conflicts within the team. But the rewards will be the landscape, the sense of achievement, the beaches and the local population will welcome and cheer on the competitors.

\"We have the ideal terrain to develop adventure racing in our country said Said Aich Neto, Race Director of the Ecomotion Sports, the company that organizes the race. “And we are proud to be part of the World Series and to welcome racers from all over the world to Brazil.

Over the coming week SleepMonsters, the online partner of the World Series, will have daily reports and pictures so you can follow the progress of the race.
