Beaches, Boats and School Visits

Most of the teams are already in the headquarters in the city of Itacaré for the second edition of the Ecomotion Pro. Many of them have used this free time before the race to get to know the city, which is very famous for its beaches! The Spring time tempartures are around 30C, good for sunbathing, but teams from the USA and Europe will have to cope with the heat when racing.

Other teams have used the time to go rafting in the Rio de Contas and to become familiar with the local canoes which will be used in the race. These are wooden 4 person canoes, like Canadians but bigger, they are about 6 meters long, stable ... but heavy.

While the competitors are out racing the 480 kilometers of the course, a social service project with the local communities will be carried out on the route. Volunteers will carry out some medical work with the children and will also will instruct them on the best way to take care of their teeth and mouths. At the end of the visit the pupils will receive books and a kit with a tooth brush and two brochures, one directed at the parents. They\'ll get some toys as well, donated by the teams.

Tomorrow (Saturday) registration will begin and teams will pick up their race-kit with T-shirts and stickers for the support cars. They\'ll also complete tests of their rope techniques, and the visiting international teams will meet up with the local support crews arranged for them by the organisers. (No doubt they\'ll be instructed carefully on the art of feeding a racing team!)

The opening party take place on Saturday night, when the course will be revealed and on Sunday the teams will be transferred to the start area by boat, before camping overnight, ready to set off on Monday.See All Event Posts
