Team Fred of the USA were the last to reach PC2, taking 10 hours on the first canoeing stage, some 4 hours behind the leaders. \"We started slowly as canoeing isn’t our strength, said captain Marc Bernder . “Epinephrine are our friends as we race together in California and we always take about twice their time! “They are a team with their own unique way of spreading the AR Gospel, as Bernder likes to take a newcomer to AR on each outing of the team, even in a big race like EcoMotion Pro.
This time it is 30 year old Anne Marie Fleming. “I love to see the faces of people when they complete something extraordinary, he said, “and I am the best example anyone can have a go. If an old, fat person can do it, so can Anne Marie, or anyone. In this life, you can make anything happen if you want it enough.
He ‘met’ Anne Marie through an e-group called ‘Let’s do something crazy’ and she has fallen in love with Brazil. \"I want to come back to live in Great Bar\", she said, referring to the race start the Peninsula of Maraú. \"I adored drinking cold beer on the beach under the stars the night before the start. No doubt she will think of those cold beers a lot in the days ahead!
It’s not all been easy going for the team though. Jerry Arellono who works as fireman in California, needed the first serious medical attention of the race for an infected abscess on his stomach. Dr. Clemar Corrêa, head of the medical team, said, \"We explained to Jerry that the infection could get worse and it might be best to drain the abscess.\" So at PC2 two medics carried out the operation before the team continued.
Jerry commented; \"I had taken antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drugs before the start and I felt well during this first day, but if I feel that my body can’t go on I’ll have to abandon the race.\" It’s the longest race of his life and the team are at the back, having lost more time for his treatment. They have a tough battle ahead. See All Event Posts
