Super Sunday

As the leaders restarted at 7am there was still some mist and cloud lying over the hills but this soon cleared as the sun rose and day 2 promises to be warm and dry, one of the best KIMM days for many years. It's also sunny but here are large cloud banks floating around the hills, one of those days you can run along the tops and look down on a sea of cloud.

It’s a day Tim Forster will be glad not to have missed, after he was rushed to hospital last night. The race organisers were told he’d forgotten the insulin the needs, and while they were trying to obtain some it became clear he needed medical treatment and he was taken to hospital. However, he is now fine and is planning on restarting day 2.

Most teams had a comfortable night, by KIMM standards, as it was nowhere near as cold as originally forecast. Mark Seddon said he had to take his thermal top off, he was too warm! With partner John Hunt he was waiting early on the start line and gave Steve Birkinshaw a shock. They were camped together and when Birkinshaw woke he saw hiss rivals had gone and wondered if he was late for his start.

He wasn’t. Nor were the C class leaders Tobias Read and Vaughan Lindsay who had a 17 second advantage. We don’t know who the team just behind us are, said Read, “we’ve never seen them and have no idea what they look like! We got lost early yesterday and as we set off among the first starters lead all the way around, so there was no help on the navigation.

“We are good runners but our nav has room for improvement so we’ll see what today brings. I hope it’s not misty as we wouldn’t enjoy that and this is one of the highlights of the season. We’ve not raced for 7 years but decided to make the KIMM a priority this year.

After the chasing start at 7am the main starts for all classes took place from 8am. For those out the longest on day one, in most classes around 11 hours, it will be hard to ease aching limbs into action again, but at least they have the prospect of a sunny day ahead.

Newsflash At the 3rd elite CP the leaders arrived together at 09.05. this looks like being a nailbiting finish!See All Event Posts
