Exclusive – Sheep Rescue Drama!

Thanks to Chris McSweeny we can bring you this exclusive picture of a touching moment from Adrenalin Rush 2002.

His team, The North Face, had been racing head to head with ‘Avengers’ all morning on the horse riding section and had just managed to pull out a lead as they set off across the slopes of Benbulben for a trekking stage. Then they came across a sheep, impossibly trapped and doomed. Would the team risk their hard won lead to perform a daring act of rescue?

The compassionate Torielle Purruer-Lloyd admitted to having her doubts. “I didn’t think they’d do it and risk our lead�, she said, “ but they did�. So the doomed sheep was pulled out and the team continued on their way feeling good about themselves. Keith Byrne said, “It gave us good Karma.�

Another team also reported rescuing a sheep during the race, but no one went quite as far as a volunteer did on the old Western Isles Challenge a few years back. He found a sheep in labour and in trouble, and as he was a vet he stopped to deliver the lamb before heading for his checkpoint.

It’s just lucky for the sheep population of the British Isles that roving groups of adventure racers are around to help them out from time to time.
