This Sunday the 5th edition of Desafio de los Volcanes begins, with 50 international teams taking part in the only race in the world that begins in one country and finishes in another.

The start will be in the city of San Martin de Los Andes in Argentina (recently host to the Raid World Champs), and the teams will cross the Mountain range of Andes aiming to reach the beaches of Valdivia, in Chile. The course covers 500 kilometers across one of the most spectacular regions of the world, passing forests, lakes, valleys and volcanoes and mountains topped with perpetual snow.

The climate in Patagônia is very changeable and despite the race being in summer, the maximum temperatures can vary between 32º and 15º C, while that the lowest temperatures can vary from plus or minus 5º C. It\'s all part of the challenge of the race.

For this edition the organization has made an important change to guarantee the safety of the competitors. Each team will have to stop for a minimum of 15 hours, divided into 3 separate stops, during all the competition. The stopping points will be daily and pre-determined, and the captains will be told about them in the briefing before the start. The change will bring a new strategic element into the race.

Teams from Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Equador, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, USA, Canada, Spain, France and Sweden will be racing.
