The teams moved to the beach at St Paul where they discovered the boats to be used for the prologue. Weighing in at 700 kilos and powered by only two oars they promised success to the strongest. The Russian team had a good launch from the beach but collided with another team and then struggled through the event.

The other women's team started last but made steady progression. The Marine National team played their ace card and despite having to take a penalty turn came in easy winners. As expected the weight of the boats caused slow progress so only three of the six planned laps were completed.

After the prologue results the starting order for the main event was as follows :
