Holofiber out of official competition
Susan McKenzie / 15.05.2005

Elina Maki-Rautila was feeling tired and fluish before the race had even begun. The Finnish racer, who joined the Canadian Holofiber of Lawrence Foster, Chad Ulansky and Scott Ford for this Swedish race was worried she might feel worse once the start began, but pressed on nonetheless. But the cold weather, and the soaking of the kayak section, only made her symptoms worsen. At the bike transition after the first kayak paddle/portage, her voice was scarcely a whisper, and she found herself repeating things over and over.
Hours ago, as the illness began to do its worst on her lungs, Maki-Rautila and her team realised that she really was not fit enough to continue the race. She has stopped and will return to Kittelsfjall, while the rest of the team will continue on course unranked.
With the exception of the American team Nomad, the remaining twelve ranked teams are through to the first orienteering section or beyond it. See All Event Posts
