Reunion d’Aventures
Racing and The Rains Take Their Toll
David Ogden / 17.05.2005

The teams have reached the halfway mark of Reunion d’Aventure, but not without incident – a lot of incident. The students of ENSAM have come and gone. A team member of local team ‘Run Evasion’ dropped out yesterday and his team-mates are continuing as an incomplete team in the Discovery class, while Eric Louzeau and his team from Brittany failed to meet a cut-off time and are now unclassified.
The Russian girls also had some misfortune, suffering a mechanical failure yesterday with one of their bikes, They had to run some 26K, which precluded them from extreme course. They managed to find a replacement overnight and began to chase down the other Adventure class teams, but later in the day they picked up a one hour penalty for missing a CP and will serve it at CP30 on the ridge above Hellbourg. The penalty will cost them their third place in Adventure class.
The weather forced the abandonment of the decent of the Biberon waterfall with the river level too high. Three remaining extreme teams, who were waiting to descend came back down to the transition area and served time penalties at PA7 on the coast at the end of the 36K bike and run. But they fared better than local team ‘BFC Reunion’ went missing for most of the day by Biberon waterfall. They are now trapped by the river until a safety team can guide them out.
Many teams continue to make errors and incur unnecessary penalties. Wilsa Sport Helly Hansen team are awaiting a jury decision regarding a charge of non-respect of the environment at their overnight camp and tonight failed to phone in their nightfall position for the second time during the race.
To make matters more difficult a number of the orienteering markers also went missing during the day which confused some teams, already coping with the heavy rains. See All Event Posts
