2005 Appalachian Extreme - Course Overview

Leg 1 - CANOEING. START >> CP2/TA1
Approx Mileage: 25
Minimum Leg Finishing Time Estimate: 4:30


Brief Description: Paddle the Connecticut River from Canaan, VT to North Stratford, NH mostly moving flatwater, but one major rapid at a dam that has to be negotiated.

Leg 2 - MOUNTAIN BIKING/RAPPEL. CP3 >> CP14/TA2
Approx Distance: 64 miles
Minimum Leg Finishing Time Estimate: 13:00


Brief Description: Teams will navigate roads, snowmobile trails, ATV trails, no (?!) trails, and mazes of roads and trails as they travel from North Stratford to the Balsams ski resort.

At the Ski Resort they will drop off their bikes to hike to the top of Table Rock, and a spectacular 200’ rappel into Dixville Notch. Once down the rope, they will scramble through some steep, rough terrain to a road, and back to their bikes for the final section of Leg 2 to Coleman State Park.

Leg 3 - TREKKING. CP15 >> CP22/TA3
Approx Mileage: 33 miles
Minimum Leg Finishing Time Estimate: 15:00


Brief Description: This section will truly test team’s navigational abilities, as there are numerous route choices, bushwhack sections, logging roads and surely a moose or two.

They will navigate over and through many mountains including Magalloway Mtn, Stub Hill, Bosebuck Mountain, finally arriving at TA3, the course’s most remote location for support crews.See All Event Posts
