Team Subaru keeps lead at TA2/CP14, latter teams still making their way toward the rappel. Sunday, 22 May, 5:00AM Despite the relentless rain and bone chilling overnight temperatures, Team Subaru USA (4-person co-ed category) coasted into TA2 early this morning at 2:17 in first place. They were saturated, a bit cold but in great spirits and looking strong. They were followed closely behind by Team The Bike Shop/The Bike Cafe, a last minute 2-person co-ed OPEN category team entry from Calgary.
As Team Bike Shop/Cafe opted to have their transition in the women\'s bathroom at the Coleman State Park campground (heated and dry!), Race Director Norm Greenberg went in for a report. Samantha Phillips was all smiles, as she even had good things to say about the 64 mile mountain bike\'s \"bog sections\".
Samantha also claimed that the biggest contributor to her gleeful mood was, \"Tom is such a great navigator, we kept passing Subaru USA without ever seeing them, and knowing we had found a better route is always satisfying!\"
As of this update, 8 teams had completed the rappel, and 4 more had dropped off bikes to start the rappel, but had yet to return to the bikes for the final push for TA2.
Team SPTU/Darn Tough has lost 2 members at CP10, Steve to bronchitis, and an ear infection (not to mention his pre-race shoulder injury) and teammate Deb to early stages of hypothermia. The two other members of the team chose to continue on unofficial. Team The Monsters also fell victum to the cold, as Ted Harlan had to drop out at CP10, they too are continuing on as an unofficial team.
Further back in the race, the only team NOT thru CP6, Team Cyclefit-Archipela.See All Event Posts
