Appalachian Extreme Adventure Race 2005
It\'s not over until it\'s over - who will be the champs?
Tracyn Thayer / 24.05.2005

Just when it started to look like Team Simon River Sports was going to easily \'ride\' away with the 2004 Appalachian Extreme Title, things started getting interesting.It\'s midnight Monday night, and no teams have passed through CP30, the mid-point of the final mountain biking leg. Simon River Sports was still in the lead at CP28, but has yet to reach the next staffed checkpoint. In the meantime, 5 teams have passed through CP28, and 1 is threatening Simon River Sports\' lead, team Eastern Mountain Sports, as they only took about 3 hours to find CP28.
There are 5 teams on Lake Richardson (the second of the two lakes), and all teams have cleared the first lake. The teams that have cleared the lake and are on the mountain bike are alternate course teams Cyclefit-Archipela, 20-40, GOALS ARA. Team NEARA is catching some sleep before taking off on the final section.
Race Director Norm Greenberg is very surprised that no team has completed the trekking section, and may have to put another unplanned cutofff into the course.
There are now 9 teams out of the race - Team #\'s 2,3,10,11,20,21,30,31,40
