The Hills take their Revenge!
31.05.2005

After the hail and thunder on the Saturday, Sunday morning was calm and dry as competitors headed for Crowcombe Village Hall, nestling right at the foot of the beautiful Quantock Hills. The first competitors arrived bright and breezy, just before 8.00 am, keen to mark up their check points on this highly coloured map, the main colour being the densely packed orange contour lines!Yet again the hall was soon full to the brim, with a good mix of regulars and first timers. We were delighted that three of the teams were composed of competitors who’d all been on our March training course in the New Forest, all eager to put their new skills to the test.
Some of the competitors had spent the night before on the floor of the bowling alley in the local pub, after they’d been washed out of their tents by the torrential rain during the night!
During the briefing, Mark advised competitors that despite the sunshine, the weather could turn very quickly and it could still get very cold (and wet) up on the hills. After the blasting of hail on the Plus racers the day before, he reminded competitors that we would be rigidly enforcing the “take a waterproof rule.
Wet Weather Run
As they set off for the run, the weather was still pretty settled and everyone was looking forward to a good hill session. Most competitors picked off checkpoint 19, positioned along the footpath to the north of the hall and then they all fanned out across the hills, along with the clouds! See All Event Posts
