The endurancelife 7x7x7 Race report - Day 6 - Cycling Time Trial

Barry Matthews / 08.07.2005See All Event Posts Follow Event
The penultimate day\'s challenge was a road cycling marathon, a 3 lap flat, fast course, against the clock. As with traditional time trials the competitors started at 1 minute intervals, with start places based on the previous Cycling event times.

The course was a 3 lap loop taking in the famous Slapton Line, straight and fast and with wonderful sea and fresh water views over the Lea.

Dave Thomas was the first off at 10am followed by Peter Welby Everard and then Ruth White. The faster guys from the previous event were eagerly waiting at the start line ready to go.

Schalk Herselman and Jonas Nilsson took off at a terrific pace, keen to score maximum points in this penultimate event, but as expected it was Graham Walton, winner of Monday\'s mountain bike event who began to power ahead, eventually finishing in 1hr 16 minutes and 46 seconds. Joe Green was as consistent as ever finishing 2nd in 1.18.11. Schalk Herselman was challenging for 2nd but just lost out to Joe coming in 30 seconds later.

The whole field was finished in just over 2 hours and many were happy with this challenge of speed after yesterday\'s arduous kayaking day.

Capuccino\'s and muffins were the order of the day after the event at The Sea Breeze Café in Torcross and the competitors relaxed with coffee and cakes overlooking the sea.

With one more day to go the end is now in sight and it will be 14 very relieved athletes who cross the finish line tomorrow afternoon.
