T3 – PC4: Roadside Rest Camp - Windmill
By now we nearly had 150km on our clock and still had 330km to go. Our seconds delighted us with hot tea, food and some inspirational talk. Our support crew contingent had now grown from three seconds to four as Allison, a friend of Craig’s, drove all the way from Port Elizabeth to come and second for the Soutie!
In no time we were back on our bikes. The road was corrugated, but some of the best we would have for days; we averaged a comfortable 15km/h. Black rain clouds were blowing away from us and the most spectacular rainbows arched over our path. Just before dark we clipped in at the Windmill, five minutes behind team World of Endurance.
PC4 – T4: Windmill – Kommando Drift DamThe next five kilometres to the transition felt like an eternity, partly because we did not prepare mentally for the last little stretch, partly because the last two kilometres to T4 was relentlessly steep and partly because we knew that the monster night-swim was coming closer. At T4 we packed all our warm kit, wetsuits, booties, flippers and disappeared into the night. See All Event Posts
