AROC Sport Adv (Syd)
Race 1 Manly Dam
SleepMonsters Australia / 18.10.2005

It was another early start i was up at 4.30am and off to Manly for Race #1 in the AROC series, I ducked into the M5 tunnel just as the yella fella was peeking over the horizon and after a few more subterranean trips I soon found myself looking over a topped up Manly dam, seems a bit of rain of late had done the lake and us a few favours. This was to be my first race in these boats and didn’t know quite what to expect, it was also my first race in premier mixed in short format AR, as usual we were greeted by the smiling faces of Tom, Al and their merry helpers as well as numerous other folk emerging for the first race of the AROC series. The weather also proved to be smiling with only very lite showers and cool temps.
Usually we would spend the first 30mins sorting out bits of gear and laminating maps with contact, never a favourite task, I had earlier invested in some new mapcases, OK they seemed like glorified snap lock bags, but the Aloksaks worked a treat, they stood up to being stuffed in tops, bras and packs and never failed, not to mention Manly dam a couple of times, don’t think I will use contact again.
