The sun rises over Sandstone Ridge to open Day 2 of the Beast of the East.

During the early hours of the morning, DNR, one of the soloist racers, left for the ascent at CP3. With only a five minute walk to the rock face it was obvious DNR had gotten lost when he hadn’t shown after fifteen minutes. One of the CP staff was sent to find him ...

After scouring the nearby trails, DNR was found inside the train tunnel less than 100 yards away. At this point, he elected to skip the ascent, take the six hour time penalty, and move forward to the rappel. Around 12:30am he turned around, headed back to CP3/CP4 and took the six hour time penalty for the rappel also. So at 12:45am he was on his way out of CP4 on the seventeen mile trek, but with a twelve hour time penalty.

Team Simon River Sports, holding their lead, arrived at CP12 at 7:40am this morning. In the middle of a 110 mile bike leg is the Orienteering Section. This is the first Beast of the East with a Biking/Orienteering section.

With a total of eight miles and five Orienteering Points, Simon River Sports completed this section in three hours and fifteen minutes at 10:55am. Team Adidas Canada arrived at the Orienteering Section at 9:20am and Team OLN Goals ARA arrived at 11:58am.See All Event Posts
