The Long Road to the World Champs

The Adventure Racing World Championships are only a couple of weeks away now, and teams are making their final preparations before flying out to South Island, New Zealand.

But for many the road to the finals began months ago, as they raced in AR World Series events to gain qualification places for the final. In the winter snows of Poland, the sands of Africa and on the lochs of Scotland teams have battled to win a place on the starting line up in New Zealand.

The series has included races on 5 continents and in 9 countries, and in each race the winning team has claimed a valuable free place in the World Championships, with second placed teams securing a guaranteed spot, and later finishers accruing points towards qualifying.

Worldwide Race Reporting

At all these races SleepMonsters, as the official web partner for the World Series and World Championship, has had reporters on the spot providing unique and authoritative coverage. The editors of SleepMonsters sites in the UK, Canada, USA and Holland have all taken a turn reporting over the past year.

For the final in New Zealand our two most experienced reporters, Susan McKenzie and Rob Howard, will be providing daily coverage to bring you the story of the race as it develops.

Both have covered races all over the world, and know the teams, the race organisation and the terrain of South Island well. You’ll find the most comprehensive and expert race coverage right here.See All Event Posts
