The Hardest Part Is Getting To the Start Line...

How’s this for a start to a major international expedition race; 2 closed bike shops in the middle of the day, 3 poorly stocked pharmacies, 1 totalled vehicle on the way to the airport, 6 overweight and oversize bags, 70 lbs to remove from one gear bin, and the most shocking of all, 1 teammate barred from boarding with an expired passport.

Needless to say it’s been a rather challenging start to Desafio de los Volcanes for Team Siemens/RaidtheNorth Canada. The unique cast of teammates has taken it all with smiles and a few offside but timely jokes, and their reactions to the events show their solid dedication to each other and to the race. After totalling a vehicle, only adventure racers would look at each other, give a quick nod they’re ok, and then simultaneously think, “I hope the bikes and gear are ok!�
