Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selection
No Woman, No Cry
02.02.2006

Nineteen of the 54 finalists for the Land Rover G4 Challenge are women and the country with the highest number of female finalists is Brazil. Two of their three competitors from the South American nation are women; Carolina Hess – a personal trainer from Sao Paulo and Eleonora Audra, a graphic designer. “Women do have an obvious disadvantage; that we are not as strong as the guys, but our strengths are numerous and in many ways we are more than capable of beating the men, says Eleonora. “We have great mind control, can withstand pain and have great stamina. Men like to go fast from the beginning and often run out of energy. They also often give up. We can keep going for long periods.
This year’s Land Rover G4 Challenge has a balanced mix of tasks involving brawn and brain. The days of events like this being won by the strongest man are long gone. And driving, a core ingredient in an adventure that crosses Thailand and Laos and Brazil and Bolivia, is a gender-neutral activity.
“I really think that the women have a real chance to win the Land Rover G4 Challenge, says Eleonora. “The odds are probably still 70/30 in favour of the men, but we could win.
